The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, located in the Dubai Mall, is one of the city’s most spectacular attractions. It’s home to over 140 species of marine animals in a 10-million-liter tank, making it one of the largest suspended aquariums in the world. The attraction is divided into two main areas: the Aquarium Tank and the Underwater Zoo.
Major Highlights
The Aquarium Tunnel: Walk through a spectacular 48-meter long transparent tunnel on the Ground Level, providing a 270-degree view of the colossal tank. You’ll be completely surrounded by thousands of marine animals, including massive Sand Tiger Sharks, Stingrays, and vibrant schools of fish.
The Underwater Zoo (Level 2): This area showcases diverse ecosystems across three zones:
Rainforest: Home to creatures like piranhas, otters, and various reptiles.
Rocky Shore: Features coast-dwelling animals, most notably the playful penguin colony.
Living Ocean: Displays open-ocean species, including Giant Spider Crabs and jellyfish.
King Croc: Meet one of the Zoo’s most famous residents—a massive saltwater crocodile named King Croc, along with his partner Queen Missy. He is one of the largest reptiles in the world, weighing over 750 kg and over 5 meters long.
Unique Animal Encounters: The zoo offers various experiences where you can get up close and personal, such as the Penguin Encounter, Ray Encounter, Otter Encounter, and even a Shark Trainer Encounter.
Immersive Experiences: Other unique activities (often included in higher-tier tickets or available as add-ons) include the Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Cage Snorkeling, and various Diving Experiences (for both certified and non-certified divers).
Visitor Insights
Accessibility: The aquarium is known for being very accessible, with wheelchair-accessible entrances, parking, and restrooms.
Ambiance: It’s often described as an “absolute marvel” and a “captivating destination” that seamlessly blends education and entertainment.
